Let’s Talk About: A Break

Mammas! I LOVE Easter and all that it entails, but ya girl woke up HUNG OVER from Easter goodness yesterday!

The preparation the days leading up to it, getting everyone photo ready the day of, the joy, the excitement, the celebration, and then the clean up. ALL of it finally caught up to me yesterday! I woke up with a headache and SO disoriented; not knowing what day it was or why my alarm clock was going off. (Silly me scheduled a doctor’s appointment for the morning after Easter! Rookie mistake. 😏)

Monday was a wash because nothing productive happened yesterday. But you know what? I NEED days like yesterday. YOU need days like yesterday.

I’m talking about days where you allow yourself to just rest. No schedule to maintain. No expectations to meet. Just a day where you allow yourself to sleep if you’re able to, shower whenever you want to. (That was at 9:00pm for me yesterday. 😉) Recover from the busyness of life when you need to. Just breathe and see where the day takes you.

And you know what? Your kids need unscheduled days too. When I made the announcement, “Hey Girls! Today is going to be an unproductive day. We’re just going to chill and take it easy.” My oldest exhaled, “Good. Because I’m exhausted,” and they vegged out on TV all day. Yep. I said it. They watched TV for the greater part of the day. And. They. Did. Not. Die. 😳

My point in all of this? Let’s normalize taking a break from the busy when we need it. Let’s normalize allowing our kids to take a break from the busy when they need it. Let’s normalize giving your body a break after a big event or a busy weekend that took all of your energy. The world will still continue to turn if you don’t hit an ounce of anything on your To Do list, and your body will probably thank you for allowing it to catch its breath.

Do you ever take a day to recover or to breathe after a busy day or event? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Yeeeessss! I so often need a day of rest after a busy day. And the whole of everything runs better if I just lean into that. This is such a good word!
