Mamma: imagine yourself in the middle of the ocean, drowning, while desperately needing help. Now, imagine that while you are drowning, you also happen to be in the middle of a bunch of boats offering you a life saving floatation device. Further, as they call out to you, “Here! Let me help you! Grab on to this so I can pull you out!” you keep saying to them, “No. I’m fine. I’ve got this. I don’t want to bother you.”
That would be silly right?
Or, imagine the same scenario, (you’re drowning in the middle of the life saving boats) but in this case, for some reason, the people in the boat – while close in proximity to you – don’t realize that you are drowning. Would you stay silent as to not bother them and continue to sink, or would you splash and scream and yell at the top of your lungs for them to help you until you got their attention?
It’s easy for us to read these scenarios and think, “Duh! If I’m drowning, I’d ask for help!” But how many of us are quietly drowning right now and due to pride, embarrassment, shame or some other lie, we are sinking silently because we don’t want to ask for help?
🚨Mamma: ASK FOR HELP!🚨
When people offer to come do your laundry, or watch the kiddos so you can have some time to yourself, or bring your family dinner one night, or hold the baby so you can shower, or whatever need they see and are offering to meet, LET THEM! I give no cares to how strong you may think you are, how smart, how tough, or brave; NONE of us were meant to do life alone. And especially this journey of Mammahood. You need other people. Chances are they have been in your shoes at least once before, they realize the impact of having someone lend a hand to them, and they want to pay it forward.
Let them.
Or, you may find yourself in our second scenario of drowning while the people around you have no idea, so they aren’t offering to help you.
Ask them anyway.
Mamma, you are worth experiencing peace in the life boat, free from gasping for air to survive.
Let today’s ✨MA Tip✨ serve as a nudge to take stock in your current situation, and if you are drowning, ask for help.
