It’s a buzz word that we all have heard a million times over lately. We all know we need to do it, and probably encourage others to do it, but if we’re being honest, as mammas, how much of our encouraging efforts do we point back towards ourselves?
We are the hardest workers we know, so who deserves some care of the self more than Mammas?!
So let’s talk about it. Do you take time to care for yourself? If so, what does that look like? How do you even make time for yourself… to care for yourself?
My friend Sharde’ is a MASTER at this and has really encouraged me over this passed year to start taking more time out of my life to schedule moments of care for myself.
Those moments have looked like putting on a face mask at the end of the night, taking a hot, long shower and just being while the water runs over my muscles; grabbing coffee or breakfast with a friend, or allowing myself to get lost in a TV show or a good book and letting what I thought I “had” to do hang out until tomorrow.
We have this misconception that in order to indulge in self-care, we need to have hours upon hours available to us. So what happens? We usually don’t attempt it at all because, “Where am I going to find that much time?” When in reality, the delight and relief that self-care brings us can be found in a 10 minute break while we indulge in our favorite treat, or a 30 minute stress reliever as we relax in a warm bath. The thing about “self-care” is that it’s not uniform; it comes to you in the way in which you feel most cared for.
So if you’ve never attempted a whirl in self-care, I’d love to hear about what’s holding you back. Or if self-care is a part of your normal routine, would you mind sharing some of the things you do to recharge? My comment section is always open and what you have to share is always valued here.
